Thame is a traditional Sherpa village in the Khumbu region of Nepal, sitting at an altitude of 3,800 meters (12,467 feet) northwest of Namche Bazaar. It is famous as the childhood home of Tenzing Norgay and birthplace of record-holding mountaineers like Apa Sherpa and Kami Rita Sherpa, and as a historic stop on the old salt-trading route with Tibet.
