Phortse Ecotourism Village
Phortse (3,950 m) is a unique Sherpa settlement of about 80 households in the lap of the mountains offering wonderful views and wildlife experience that include the musk deer, peacocks Himalayan tahr and the rare snow leopard. Lush Phortse is about a 4-hour walk northeast from the Sagarmatha National Park headquarters. One has the option of returning via Phortse while coming down from Everest Base Camp.

- Allow time to acclimatize because of the high elevation.
- Consider staying in a local homestay.
- Respect local Sherpa customs and traditions.
- Ask permission before photographing residents.
- Do not disturb wildlife.
- Stay on established trekking paths.

- Directions
- From Namche Bazaar, follow the Khumbu trekking route toward Phortse. Phortse can also be visited as an alternative route while returning from Everest Base Camp toward Namche. Nepal Tourism Board describes Phortse as approximately a four-hour walk from the Sagarmatha National Park headquarters area and notes that trekkers can return through Phortse from the Everest Base Camp route.
